Signs of Spring

Spring has been such a long time coming. They say its been the coldest Spring for 50 years and don't we know it. The children went out the week before half term to look for signs of Spring and at last they saw many different flowers and the leaves starting to grow on the trees. They enjoyed collecting and counting the different types of flowers and have begun to learn some of the common names

Petrol please.

The children have been filling up their cars with petrol and paying for it at the cashier's kiosk using pound coins. They had great fun playing these roles.

Numicon Maths

We have started using Maths equipment that helps us to recognise numbers. Numicon Maths is bright and has distinctive shapes that we have already begun to recognise and associate with certain numbers. We have been putting the shapes in order of number and have made balls of play dough to match to the shapes. We use the shapes to fill the special boards. We even enjoy tidying them away in their boxes matching them to the correct number!

Phonic show and Tell

We have been bringing things in to show everyone else. We have brought things in that start with 's', 't', 'p' and 'n'. Thank you to our mums and dads for helping us. We are beginning to learn our initial sounds and are beginning to recognise them.

The Three Little Pigs

We listened to the story of The Three Little Pigs and ordered the types of houses with Mrs Talbot. Later we carefully coloured the pictures for each part of the story. We had to cut the squares out ourselves and then we made a special book sticking the pictures in in the correct order. We were then able to read our books to our friends.

Celebrating 100 years of Llanhari School

The children all looked fantastic in their Edwardian clothes and they loved wearing them too!
The day began with the children sat in rows which they actually quite liked. When surnames were called out for the register instead of their first names they either found it hysterical or didn't know who I was talking about.
They enjoyed the tug of war and watched the other classes doing egg and spoon and hoop and stick races.
We did our own egg and spoon race later on our playground and it's the activity that they remembered well when writing our Newspaper and loved doing the most.
Finally, they all sat down together to eat their food. A memorable and good day was had by all and best of all we managed to avoid the rain!
