Welcome back!

Happy New Year! Many thanks for the gifts we received and we hope that everyone had a great Christmas. The children were definitely very excited in the lead up to Christmas and have enjoyed showing and telling us about one of their presents from Santa. The DVD of our Christmas concert is still for sale if anyone is interested; just ask at the Nursery door. Our school trip was a huge hit with the children who were fantastically behaved. We will be planning another one this term and I’ll let you know soon. This week we have noticed a huge improvement in behaviour. The children are much better at sitting and listening to staff and others on the carpet. They are also developing a more caring attitude to others and they are forming new friendships which is lovely to see. This week we had some new children starting in the Nursery and the others have made them feel welcome and have tried to help them when ever possible. Our topic this term is ‘Once Upon a Time’. We will be focusing on Knights, princesses, dragons and castles which I’m sure will be very popular with the children. Before we start this topic we thought we’d go somewhere cold and snowy with lots of penguins and elephants about! We read ‘Elmer in the Snow’ and next week we’ll be reading ’Cuddly Dudley’ so there is ice, snow and lots of penguins in class as well as an igloo! The children have done many assessment activities this week to see the progress they have made and Teddy target sheets will be given out shortly so that you can work with us in helping them to further develop their skills.
You could also help your child to stick in something that you have done at home or seen out and about which could be shared in class.

If you have not helped your child to make a cover or returned the book please do. Your child will be wondering where their book is when others in class are working on their Learning logs.
If you need some assistance please ask us. We’d be happy to help.
We are also sending a story book chosen by your child for you to read and discuss with them throughout the week.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you’d like to discuss anything.
Many thanks for your continued cooperation and support,
Trish Alford (class teacher) and the class 1 team
